10 Kiki & Joost
Effenaar / Dommelstraat
Director of the Effenaar Jos Feijen saw Urban Hunting Lodge first at the Kleine Berg. It was during the Dutch Design week of 2012. “Hee, there’s standing something weird, was the first thing I thought.” Feijen climbed in the lodge: “an estranging experience.” During this year’s DDW the watchtower stands in the Dommeltuin behind the Eindhoven music temple.
Designers Kiki van Eijk and Joost Bleiswijk designed the Urban Hunting Lodge in 2012. A watchtower of 7 meters high where visitors of the DDW could climb into and stare through a telescope to the city.
During the DDW the tower is freely accessible for everyone who want to climb in. After that the project is locked to prevent accidents and don’t give free rein to vandals. But the tower stays as an art object.
In the future the tower must be a catalyst for more liveliness in the garden. “With students and residents we are exploring if we can build a temporarily pavilion for in the summer. Or we could organize some garden concerts. But all of this is something for the future.” The tower in the garden is a first step in the making of a livingly Dommeltuin.
